Perfect DIY Home Projects for a Rainy Day in St. Louis | RedKey Realty Leaders

When rainy weather hits in the St. Louis area, it can be a great opportunity to stay inside and tackle a few DIY projects. If you recently moved in after looking at St. Louis homes for sale, this is a chance to make the space feel more like your own. Or, if you've been in your home for a few years, it could be a chance to freshen the place up a bit. What projects should you tackle first? Here are a few suggestions.

  • Create a Reading Nook
If you love to curl up with a good book, why not create a cozy reading nook in your home? Find a quiet corner, preferably near a window for natural light, and add a comfortable chair or a cushioned bench. A small side table is great for holding your current read and a cup of tea. Add a soft throw blanket and a few pillows to make the space even more inviting. You could also install a small bookshelf nearby to keep your favorite books within arm's reach. A reading nook is the perfect place to relax, unwind, and escape into a good story on a rainy day.

  • Organize Your Closets
Do your closets look disorganized? You probably need a better system to keep everything in its place. You could add a shelving unit to one corner of the closet, creating space for smaller items like hats, belts, and bags. If your clothes are too packed in, consider adding a second rod. This way, you can hang two rows of clothing. An over-the-door rack for shoes is also a smart addition.

  • Go Through Your Pantry
The pantry is another place where things tend to accumulate. Pull everything out and sort through it. Set aside unexpired but unwanted items to donate to a local food bank. Throw away expired or stale food. Then, take stock of what remains and sort these items into groups based on type. Your categories might include dry goods, baking supplies, canned foods, and seasonings. You could put everything back into the pantry in organized groups. Or, you could go one step further and buy matching containers. Put your dry goods into these matching containers and create labels for each one. You'll now have a much easier time finding what you need.
  • Create a Gallery Wall
A gallery wall is an excellent way to showcase your favorite art pieces or family photos while adding a personal touch to your home. Start by selecting a theme, whether it's travel photos, framed artwork, or a mix of both. Lay out your frames on the floor first to get a sense of spacing and arrangement. Once you're happy with the layout, start hanging your frames. You can use matching frames for a cohesive look or mix and match for an eclectic vibe. This is a project that not only brightens up your space but also creates a meaningful focal point in any room.

  • Clean The Fridge
Pull everything out of the fridge, and give the walls and shelves a good scrub down with baking soda. Pay close attention to the gaskets; wipe them down to remove mold or mildew. Throw away old items and put everything back inside in a more organized manner. You can always add a few plastic baskets to your fridge to help keep items organized.

The next time we have a rainy day, we hope you get to tackle some of these DIY projects. Don't hesitate to contact us if you need help buying or selling a home in the St. Louis area.
